FLEMING Academic Background: Graduated University of Alabama, 1969; University of Alabama Law School, 1971; Order of the Coif; Editorial Board, University of Alabama Law Review. Former Bar Examiner for Alabama State Bar; Currently member of the Board of Directors of the University of Alabama Law School Foundation. Legal Background: Licensed to practice before the Alabama Supreme Court; United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Alabama; U. S. Courts of Appeal, Fifth and Eleventh Circuits. Forty years experience in civil trial practice including products liability, construction disputes, personal injury and death, maritime, aviation, tobacco, asbestos, shareholder rights, environmental disputes, insurance coverage and bad faith and breach of warranty, representing plaintiffs as well as insurance carriers and parties on all sides of business and construction litigation. Articles published in the Alabama Lawyer and the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association Journal. Mediation Experience: General mediation (other than domestic relations) for approximately 18 years involving over 1,200 cases. Completed a 20-hour basic mediation training course. Participates as speaker or attendee at annual ADR continuing legal education events. Member of the Panel of Neutrals for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama and is recognized by the Alabama Supreme Court Commission on Dispute Resolution. Regularly appointed by circuit court judges in Mobile and Baldwin Counties in Alabama and federal judges in the Southern District of Alabama for court ordered mediations. Selected by lawyers throughout Alabama for voluntary mediations. Successfully conducted mediations in every aspect of civil litigation. Walter G. (Stoney) Chavers graduated from the University of Alabama in 1987. He worked as a Legislative Assistant to Congressmen H.L. “Sonny” Callahan (AL) and Earl Hutto (FL) in Washington, D.C. before obtaining his JD degree from Birmingham School of Law and Cumberland in 1993. Mr. Chavers is admitted to practice in the State of Alabama; the Middle, Northern and Southern Districts of Alabama; and 11th Circuit Court of Civil Appeals Mr. Chavers, his wife Kathy and son Barr attend Dauphin Way UMC where he serves on the Board of Trustees. Current/past board memberships include Mobile Touchdown Club; Penelope House; National Multiple Sclerosis Society; DWUMC Child Development Center. He also served as President of the Oakleigh Garden District and is active in several civic and charitable organizations. |
